Stay Healthy Longer by Listening to Your Body's Wisdom

Our bodies want to help us stay healthy. They have a lot to say and are a wealth of information. We get busy, life is loud and we miss the subtle tones of our body trying to get our attention. No matter – our bodies will eventually find a way to stop us and make us listen – which at that point we might not like what it has to say.

It’s a good bet you’re here to grow, and when I say “grow” I mean evolve into freedom by shedding the shrouds of the past to become a better, more compassionate, kinder you. Most of us learn from each other  – what we judge in others we also judge within ourselves.

For example:

I get angry when I see a bully hurt someone who is too weak to defend him/her self. My angry reaction is a sign letting me know I too can be a bully and be mean to my perceived weaker self and to others who remind me of this weakness. It’s actually the perceived weakness that triggers me and makes me angry.  I’ve been a very harsh judge to my inner child – believing she’s always been too weak to defend herself. I’m learning to have compassion for my bully who is just on the other side of my weaker self’s coin.

By continuing to judge myself as weak, I’ve forced myself to live a life trying to prove I’m strong. Great, but it can’t last because it’s all based on a lie. All shadows will be revealed in the light of truth. That’s where my body comes into the picture. If I’m not getting the signs from my reactions, judgments and circumstances – my body will intervene and start sending me symptoms . . .

because I asked for a life of peace which does not include blaming myself or others, or causing wars within and without.

I need to stop blaming and see my inner child as wounded and help her heal by giving her love and compassion. I need to forgive myself too for believing I was overpowered because I was too weak. I also need to acknowledge and forgive the bully within me.

Your body will try and get your attention by choosing the perfect symptom or illness. For example: back pain. Millions of people have some sort of back pain. Many times it starts out as an ache, then move to a pain, or maybe it happens really fast like out of the blue. Either way – it’s still a sign from your body to pay attention – it’s time to heal this debilitating pattern or negative belief.

A great place to start –

Ask Yourself: What was going on in my life when the symptom first occurred?

Many times that’s where you find your answer. A friend of mine came down with major low back pain suddenly and had to go to an osteopath for treatment. The osteopath had to ask my friend three times if anything significant happened to her lately before she shakily replied – “Well my mom just died recently?” It never occurred to her that the death of her mother would cause physical symptoms within her own body.

My friend was feeling the recent loss of her mother and her grief manifested as pain in her low back. This symptom usually means feeling unsupported. There’s a wonderful book available that I always refer to when I have physical symptoms – Heal Your Body by Louise Hay. It’s a wealth of information and a great place to start. This book provides the symptoms, their probable cause and a helpful affirmation.

A next great question:

Why this particular symptom in this specific part of my body?

Your body’s wisdom will give you the exact symptom or disease that is relative to your issue without question. Again, refer to the list of symptoms in Louise Hay’s book for a place to look for answers. You should know:

Symptoms and diseases are not random.

Once our destructive cycling patterns and negative beliefs effect us on the physical level – it’s tough, but not impossible, to clear them. It takes diligence and a willingness to let go of the particular pain or disease. There are many people who are attached to their illnesses because the payoff is greater than the pain. Be willing to not need your pain or disease in your life.

Fear will sabotage your progress. Trust yourself and your body. Your body has the wisdom and tools it needs to heal. And, if you feel you need to get the appropriate care and help, then do so.

Also – watch out what comes out of your mouth!! This too can manifest into unwanted symptoms!! Just to name a few:

  • I can’t stand her (leg problems)
  • What a pain in the butt (polyps, hemorrhoids, colon issues, etc.)
  • That’s so lame (debilitating illnesses)

Take care of yourself and start to listen to your body. If you feel too tired to go out – stay in for the evening. If aches and pains are showing up – pay attention and spend a bit of time listening to what your body is telling you.

  1. When we become aware we then become aware how much we are not aware of. Life is so complex and the way everything is connected blows my mind sometimes. I could really relate to what you said about proving you had to be so strong. Lately …. I’ve been showing my realness, my vulnerable sides, my hurt, my less then powerful self that proclaims I am Super Woman. And you know what? It feels good! Life has put me in situations where honestly I just couldn’t take one more thing, and so I “broke”. I cried. I showed how scared I was. I admitted I didn’t know what was going on. And a “fear” I’ve had for many years disappeared as my inner self, the one who struggles and the one who bumbles, is making herself known. There have been times recently I looked “foolish” or at least I felt that way because I normally don’t show others my weaknesses. But afterwards I felt good knowing I have been showing others I don’t have it all together but I am trying. Some of us are so hard on ourselves. It feels wonderful to just let all that harshness go. GREAT POST, Donna!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    1. Hi Amy! I understand what you are saying. It’s a relief really to not HAVE to be strong and know what to do in every situation life presents us. More help can come to us and our bodies can relax a bit more. We are definitely on the same path and relate to so many similar things. Nice to know. There seems to be an invisible hand that has come along to help us transform and to see things within us that are outmoded and no longer necessary. It’s quite cool! I really appreciate all you have accomplished on your path!! Take care!! Much love to you! Donna

      1. I’m best of friends with that “invisible hand”. LOL You can say the same for yourself you know, about being appreciative of all you have accomplished on your Life Journey. Far from easy what either one of us is doing!! XOXO
